LOCK KNOB FOR FRONT TABLE HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT ON A VINTAGE DELTA DELUXE 6-INCH JOINTER

This listing is for one replacement locking knob used to secure the front table height adjustment on a vintage Delta Deluxe 6-inch jointer.

The front—or infeed—table height is adjusted by turning the right-side handwheel at the front of the jointer. Once the desired cutting depth is established, the table is locked in position by tightening the knob located at the back of the machine, in the center of the right-hand handwheel shaft.

Our replacement lock knob is CNC-machined from aluminum and features a fluted outside diameter for an attractive appearance and a secure grip. A tapered steel bolt is permanently press-fit into the knob.

The bolt has a tapered point, and a 5/16-24 threaded shaft. As the knob is tightened, the tapered point spreads two small brass locking bullets inside the adjustment shaft. The bullets press against the surrounding bore, creating enough friction to prevent the handwheel from turning. Loosening the knob releases the pressure and allows the table height to be adjusted again.

Although two knobs could physically be installed on a Delta Deluxe jointer, an easy-access locking knob is normally needed only on the front table. The front table is adjusted regularly to control the amount of material removed during each pass.

The rear—or outfeed—table should require adjustment only when setting its surface flush with the cutting circle of the knives. Because this adjustment is not routinely changed, Delta originally installed a tapered bolt at the rear table lock that required a wrench to tighten or loosen.

One photograph shows the knob’s installed location on a Deluxe jointer. The knob shown in that installation photo is an original Delta knob. Our reproduction knob provides an improved appearance and a more secure grip.

This listing includes one CNC-machined aluminum lock knob only.
