REPRODUCTION DELTA #882 WORK LIGHT

Known Among Collectors as the “Retirement Light”

The original Delta #882 work light earned its unusual nickname from collectors who joke that, had they known how valuable these lights would eventually become, they could have purchased enough of them “back in the day” to retire on today.

Original examples have become increasingly difficult to find, especially in good, usable condition. Rather than simply copy the original, we set out to reproduce this popular accessory using improved materials that should provide many years of dependable service.

Improved Materials and Construction

Original Delta work lights were manufactured during the 1940s and 1950s. Their shades were cast from a pewter-type metal that could tarnish over time, while the zinc-plated carbon-steel linkage was susceptible to corrosion. After 50–70 years of service, the original sockets, switches, and electrical cords are also frequently worn out or unsafe to use.

Our reproduction #882 work light features:

• Investment-cast stainless-steel shade, machined and polished to a mirror-like finish
• Polished stainless-steel adjustable mounting linkage
• Polished nickel-plated aluminum lamp socket
• Chrome twist-to-activate switch knob
• Installed 36-inch SJOOW 18/2 black power cord
• Super-bright LED bulb rated at a 50-watt equivalent
• Stainless-steel mounting hardware

Faithful Reproduction of the Original Shade

The lamp shade faithfully duplicates the original Delta design, including:

• Original-style shape and proportions
• Socket mounting boss
• Set-screw hole at the socket entrance
• Twelve ventilation holes surrounding the top of the shade

Two of the listing photos show the shade’s progression from investment casting to machining and final polishing—one viewed from the top and the other from underneath.

The completed shade has a highly reflective, mirror-like finish. In the photographs, you can clearly see reflections of both the nearby Coke can and the person taking the pictures.

New Approved Lamp Socket

The new lamp socket threads into the shade in the same manner as the original Delta socket. It is stamped with both UL and CSA approval markings and includes a chrome twist-switch knob.

Stainless-Steel Linkage and Hardware

The adjustable linkage incorporates:

• 1/4"-20 stainless-steel button-head cap screws
• 8-32 stainless-steel set screw at the socket opening
• Zinc-plated nylon-insert locknuts
• Polished stainless-steel center spacer

One listing photo shows all 20 individual components used to assemble a complete light.

Power Cord and Machine Compatibility

The complete 115-volt light includes an installed 36-inch length of SJOOW 18/2 black power cord.

This cord length is suitable for:

• Delta drill presses, where the cord connects inside the motor junction box
• Delta band saws and scroll saws, where the connection is typically made inside the upper support-arm casting

Longer power cords are available by special request.

Optional S-6 Universal Mounting Bracket

The #882 work light can also be installed on other Delta machines—and many machines made by other manufacturers—using the bolt-on mounting bracket originally sold by Delta as part number S-6.

Our reproduction S-6 universal bracket is available separately for machines that do not have an original cast-in-place light-mounting boss.

The S-6 bracket is not included with this #882 work light.
