WATER CUP AND SUPPORT BRACKET FOR A VINTAGE
DELTA TRIPLE DUTY GRINDER
ALSO KNOWN AS A QUENCH CUP AND ITS SUPPORT ROD
This is an all-new fabricated quench cup and support rod that can be placed on either side of a Delta Triple Duty 7” grinder. The bent support rod fits into the cast boss that is present on the lower side of both the left and right guard castings on a Delta 7” grinder.
The rounded bottom water cup is 3½” diameter by 4.25” tall. The cup is made from .22” thick wall carbon steel, making the cup very stout and heavy as were the original cast iron quench cups. The top edge of the cup has been faced square and then radiused on a lathe, creating a smooth and attractive exposed surface.
The steel rod pivot boss welded in the bottom of the cup is located off center allowing for flexible positioning of the cup, due to the eccentricity created by the offset.
The support rod is made from 7/16” diameter C1018 steel and has been black oxide plated for appearance and corrosion protection.
Each of the TIG welded cups was first sanded smooth and then sandblasted before being powder coated in gloss gray for corrosion protection.
